In today’s world, there is a lot of development taking place within every single technological field. One of these fields happens to be the field of home security.
Within the past decade, many developments have occurred, when it comes to home security systems, as well as things like alarm systems, sensors, and, of course, security cameras.
Today, there are so many different security cameras available. It can be very difficult to determine which security camera system is the best. There are just so many options and so many features that need to be considered and looked at.
It is very overwhelming.
That’s why, today, we’re going to be looking at floodlight security cameras. More specifically, the key features and elements that you need to consider.
What Features/Aspects Do I Need To Consider?
Smartphone And Smart Home Functionality
In today’s market, most security camera systems have some kind of smartphone or smart home functionality.
Everyone has a smartphone. Some people also have some kind of smart home system. There is no reason for your security camera system not to have this kind of “sync” functionality.
You need to look for a floodlight security camera system that gives you access to a live video feed on your smartphone. It must also give you real-time updates and alerts, when motion is detected or when the camera detects something unusual. Having access to a siren, built into the camera, is another great feature that you should look for.
Depending on the security camera system you get, there should be an option to use your smartphone’s microphone to transmit audio. This way, you can communicate with guests and, in some cases, intruders.
Motion detection is an absolute necessity. Without motion detection, you’re going to have to watch the video feed at all times, and that is simply not possible. With motion detection, the security camera system will tell you when something unusual has happened, or something weird is taking place.
If you have the option, you should purchase a more advanced motion detection system. These systems are useful because they enable you to choose on which areas and spots the camera should focus. Ideally, make sure it can detect objects – and people, of course – that are up to 20 feet.
Good Video And Sound
This probably goes without saying, but make sure that you have a security camera that offers a live video feed. Some of them don’t, and these aren’t the ones you want.
You’re going to want to have a high-quality video coming from the security camera. At the very least, it should be 720p. 1080p is ideal.
One other thing that you want to take note of is the presence of an “Infrared Night Vision” mode. Having a good floodlight is great, but sometimes, it isn’t enough to illuminate all of what’s going on. That’s why having an Infrared Night Vision mode is ideal. It enables you to see everything that’s going on, regardless of how light or dark it is.
A quality video feed enables you to see exactly what is going on, at any given time, and this makes the whole thing just so much more secure.
But you should also have an audio feed. Specifically, microphones built into the security camera system that enables you to hear exactly what is going on. If the system senses some weird noise, it will send you an alert along with the sounds.
The other aspect, though, of having an audio feed is that it should enable you to use your microphone. Specifically, the microphone that’s in your smartphone. If you have intruders, it’s not a bad idea to let them know that you know they are there and that you can see and hear them.
Most floodlights are quite bright. Some of them aren’t. This is going to be a bit of a problem if you want to detract intruders or illuminate certain spots that aren’t as well-lit as others.
Try to find one that advertises the floodlight being “Ultrabright”. Naturally, these floodlights will be quite bright, which is just what you need.
Make sure to read the reviews, as well. You’ll see people talking about how bright the floodlights are. Some manufacturers don’t say too much about the actual brightness of the lights on their store and product pages.
