Just mention the word mosquito, and many people start to itch and scratch. Unless you are under the age of two, you know exactly what a mosquito is. They bite! Only the female bites. Plus, not only do they bite, in some countries they can carry nasty diseases such as Malaria, Zika, Yellow Fever, and the West Nile Virus. In 2015, The WHO (World Health Organization) reported that there are approximately 438,000 deaths just from malaria alone! Now, before you hit the panic button, not every mosquito is carrying these diseases, but it is feasibly possible.
What to Do
Prevention is, of course, the best answer. Remove any breeding ground, thus, making it hard for them to reproduce. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. Mosquitoes can lay eggs in something as small as a bottle cap that has stagnant water in it. Even then, mosquito eggs can dry out for up to eight months and still hatch when inundated with moisture again.
If you can’t completely prevent them, then kill them. You have three methods to do just that; electric shock treatment, trap them, and pesticides.

Shock Them
One of the most fulfilling ways to kill them is with the tennis racket type fly swatter. Essentially, they took a tennis racket and electrified the strings with some battery power. Mosquitos are very slow fliers, literally the slowest of all flying insects. When you see them or hear their distinctive buzzing, push a button and swing for the fences. If you make contact with the nuisance, you got her. These will work for any flying insect indoors or out. It is good exercise too!
You can set up one of the typical blue light bug zappers in the yard, but to be honest, they are more effective at killing any of the other flying bugs. Mosquitoes are attracted to their prey by the CO2 we, or any other mammal, exhale, not light. So, unless that zapper in the bag yard has some kind of chemical attractant in it, it will not be very useful and could cause more harm to the beneficial insects that eat mosquitos.
Trap Them
Sometimes, zapping mosquitos can be noisy. Traps can make the killing quieter and less obtrusive. There are a couple of different types of traps on the market, sound producers and chemical attractants. The models that attract mosquitos with heat and sound will kill them by trapping the insect and starving it or drying them out which can make for an easy clean-up.
Others use CO2, propane, or other assorted baits to entice the mosquito to enter or be sucked in by a low volume vacuum. These traps use a fan that sucks the mosquitoes into a net, usually submerged in a soapy water solution. Other bait traps use a type of sticky paper to capture the insects. These can be a little messier to clean up and not good if you are squeamish about dead carcasses.
CO2 is what humans exhale and in large quantities can kill you. Make sure you read the label on whatever device you purchase. It will clearly state whether it can be used indoors and outdoors, or strictly just outdoors. Propane powered ones should never be used indoors.
Pesticides-Foggers
If you are planning on having a party and need a lot of mosquitos eradicated quickly, then a fogger would be your best tool. A fogger will only kill the adult mosquitos in a general area but does a good job of getting rid of many at once. They do not get the eggs or larvae so that they will return quickly. A propane fogger uses heat to vaporize the insecticide and sprays it out like a fog. When using a fogger, look for shady, damp and humid areas that may have standing water. These are where she lays her eggs and will hide during the heat of the day.
Sprayers
When the mosquitoes around your home have just become too intense and the need to kill them for an extended period has been reached, mosquito sprayers are what you want to reach for. These devices are meant to apply the pesticide that will last for as much as thirty days, killing adults and larvae. Once you break the cycle, there will be less and fewer mosquitos.
Conclusion
While many of these products are safe to be used by the general public, you should always exercise extreme caution. Make sure you read the label and follow it accordingly. Some can be used indoors as well as outdoors, and others are to be used exclusively outdoors. Mosquitos can be a real nuisance as well as a health issue, if you can’t prevent them, kill them.
